Ableton Signal Analyzer Mac

Signal Analyzer is a combined oscilloscope/spectrum-analyzer plugin for inspecting signals in realtime in the time- and frequency domain. The oscilloscope's refresh rate may be synchronized to the period of the incoming signal to stabilize the plot of periodic waveforms. As most producers will tell you, eq’ing your sounds so they occupy the appropriate space in the frequency spectrum is CRUCIAL to achieving a well balanced mix. Not only will this provide clarity of detail in the mixdown, but it will also ensure you have as much valuable headroom as possible for.

Good Day fellow Abletoners,
AnalyzerAs always, please forgive my ignorance regarding this topic and I hope that someone can get me on the right track.
I have discovered that I can 'read' a waveform much better in an application like Audacity with it's two tone colors than I can using any of the Spectrum Analyzers that come with Ableton. Perhaps this is a shortcoming of myself but I know that I can visually identify a good waveform with less clipping and identify too heavy compression and other problems when viewing an export in Audacity.

Is there a free VST or something out there that can give me a 'heads up' in real time in Ableton? I've looked at a smexoscope and it was helpful but still wasn't quite what I was looking for? I especially value the two color tones for low and high frequencies.
Hopefully one of you kind people can point me in the right direction.

If you use Wavosaur for mastering / premastering, or signal analysis in a more general way, you need tools for audio analysis : spectrum analyzers, phase analyzers, sonogram.
Wavosaur comes with analyzers, you’ll find them in the ‘tools’ menu, along with oscilloscopes & statistics about the sound file (maximum sample peak, RMS power, average value..).

But you can also use VST plugins (for some people it can be more convenient).
We have searched deep deep inside deep deep down inside into the web, to find the best free VST plugins for audio analysis, here’s the selection:

1) Spectrum Analysis

1.1) Voxengo SPAN

This spectrum analyzer uses FFT to display the signal frequency in real time.
You can freeze the display, and use the mouse to shows dB values / Frequency value
Frequency is displayed in Hz and in musical note.
The Voxengo SPAN analyzer also displays statistics : RMS power, and it features a clipping detection.

Adjustable size for the FFT buffer. Had sometimes display problem with Wavosaur.

1.3) BlueCat FreqAnalyst

Like the previous VST effect, this one can show spectrum of left / right channel or both, has a “hold peak” feature that is interesting, when dealing with EQ level in your mix.

You have the choice for the sonogram colors, and many options to tweak the sonogram displays
